LEARNING IN EXTREME VASCULAR INTERVENTIONS HAS STARTED !

Learning Extreme Interventions in Brescia is a new training program designed to provide knowledge on the condition of critical limb ischemia, particularly in diabetics and its endovascular treatment. Our centre at the Istituto Clinico "Città di Brescia Hospital", recently renewed, with its about 1,000 below-the-knee procedures performed per year, offers the unique opportunity to be directly involved in the procedures performance for both UE or non-UE physicians. Short and particularly long-stay opportunities (up to one year) open to cardiologists, radiologists, vascular surgeons and angiologists and two articulated didactic programs, will allows the applicant to be familiar with the most advanced techniques for below-the-knee recanalization. Our centre, with (an average) 1,000 interventions per year in diabetics with CLI, during the last 12 years, probably represents the most experienced centre in this field. Two specifically designed learning programs will support the applicant to gain experience in the treatment of CLI condition and amputations prevention.

1- Practical and Basic Theoretical Program
This part of the program is officially endorsed by the Regione Lombardia Authority.

Acquisition of the practical skills for correct management of the revascularization procedure, especially all the techniques and methods to reduce the risk of complications. The applicant will have the opportunity to be present in the procedure performances, gaining knowledge and experience, basic and practical tools, in the emerging field of extreme vascular interventions. Particular emphasis will be placed on the antegrade femoral approach, endovascular treatment of calcified lesions, long occlusions, complex-long calcified stenoses and difficult re-entry procedure after sub-intimal fem-pop-tib recanalization. Recanalization of long-calcified tibial & foot arteries represents a relevant part of the procedures in which applicants will be trained.

2- The Advanced Theoretical Program
The Basic Theoretical Program will be enriched and completed by the exhaustive treatment of some of the following issues, according to the duration of the Trainreship :

Diagnostic criteria in CLI
Patients selection
Correct indication for revascularization
Complications prevention
Treatment of restenosis
Diagnosis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular co-morbidities
Management of co-existing coronary or carotid disease
Prevention of contrast nephropathy in high risk patients
Strategies in dialysis cases
Treatment strategies in diabetics with coronary and/or carotid disease

Duration and cost
The Program "Learning Extreme Interventions in Brescia" can have the duration of 5 or 10 days.
Furthermore, it is encouraged to apply for Long Period Program (up to one year)

The Practical and Basic Theoretical Program is endorsed by the Regione Lombardia Authority.
The complementary Advanced Program must be covered by participants, according to the following costs:
